Advantages and disadvantages of wooden houses

Advantages:

healthy house wood as a natural raw material, having the ability to self-regulate humidity, creates unique, difficult to obtain in other technologies, microclimate inside the building,. In countries where timber construction is widespread, the statistical inhabitant of these houses lives a dozen or so years longer.

short construction time it takes about three months to build a collapsible house on the construction site, imported to the construction site in full prefabrication – several days,

low weight of the house The light structure of the wooden house reduces the size of the foundations to a minimum, so their cost is lower, and the transport of materials to the construction site and at the site itself costs less,

"dry” the construction technology of the house structure is limited to the installation of wooden elements, joined with nails and metal fasteners, therefore, no technological breaks are needed, which significantly shortens the construction time;

the possibility of building houses even in winter, apart from the foundations, a wooden house does not require any wet works, like concreting or bricklaying, so that the construction of a wooden house can take place in the winter,

ease of reconstruction and modernization the structure of wooden houses allows for easy reconstruction, extensions or modernizations, e.g.. in terms of moving the walls, whether to repair or replace the installation,

small thickness of external walls walls filled with thermal insulation, allow to minimize the thickness of external walls, thanks to which wooden houses with the same external dimensions have a usable area of approx. 10% than brick houses.

good thermal protection of the house, external walls and the roof are lined with a vapor barrier foil on the entire surface and filled with thermal insulation in their full thickness, which results in high thermal insulation of external walls and ensures low operating costs.

Defects

low thermal inertia cools down quite quickly, but it heats up at the same time,

limited span of ceilings wooden joists limit the dimensions of the rooms to some extent; for larger spans, binders or special ceiling girders should be used,

technology not widely used wood as a structural building material, in the mentality of Poles, it is not very popular, although in many countries of the world wooden houses, constitute the majority of single-family housing,

sophisticated technology requires exceptionally high accuracy and technical culture, requiring very good knowledge of technical and assembly requirements,

no common dimensional system different dimensions of building materials, e.g.. thermal insulation, wood-based panels, gypsum boards with the system spacing of the posts, floor beams and roof rafters, cause difficulties and increase construction costs.
