Control of fire shut-off dampers and fire ventilation shut-off dampers

The scenario of the development of events during a fire should include, inter alia, procedures and algorithms for the response of security systems in the event of a fire. This includes both detection of a fire with an automatic fire alarm system, hereinafter referred to as SAP, providing information about its creation, as well as activation of appropriate devices constituting the fire protection of the building.

Detecting a fire is currently not a problem, even at its earliest stage. On the other hand, it is difficult to eliminate unwanted SAP reactions related to the occurrence of fire-like phenomena, climatic impacts of the environment, as well as electromagnetic interactions. For this reason, careful selection of the types of detectors is of great importance for the correct operation of SAP, use of appropriate shielded cables and selection of an appropriate alarm organization for the fire alarm control panel, hereinafter referred to as CSP. The operation and maintenance of the installation by trained personnel have a great impact on reducing the number of false alarms, as well as constant maintenance of devices.

As a result of a triggered fire alarm, the CSP fire alarm control panel performs the procedure of controlling devices and security systems in accordance with the adopted scenario of the development of events during a fire.. All reactions of security systems are related primarily to the fire zone at risk. This fact should be taken into account when making decisions on the routing of detection lines, determining the division into surveillance zones and protection areas, and also during the assignment of individual executive elements of the SAP system to them. An example of a wrong solution, resulting from omission of the above requirements, it is possible to trigger a fire alarm in the CSP by activating one of the fire buttons installed in a separate staircase on a non-hazardous floor by evacuating people. Because the commissioning of the facility's security systems is initiated by SAP, all rooms and spaces should be supervised without exception, which means, that total protection of the object must be applied. Otherwise, the automatic control of the fire protection systems will not be effective. An important condition for the proper cooperation of the SAP system with fire protection systems is fire detection through smoke detection. During the smoldering processes, thermal decomposition (flameless fires) often constituting the early stage of a fire, very large amounts of smoke are produced with little rise in temperature, therefore, the use of heat detectors for fire detection is ineffective.
