Control of fire ventilation systems

The fire event development scenario adopted in the design process significantly influences the selection:

– control devices,

– devices responsible for activating fire protection,

– power,

– wiring.

From the point of view of the implementation of procedures for controlling devices constituting fire protection, two solutions can be distinguished:

a) single stage. Adopting such a solution presupposes a one-off response from the fire detection and security systems of the facility. In this case, as a result of fire detection by the SAP system occurs, among others, as a result of issuing a command from the CSP, separation of the fire zone by closing remotely controlled cut-off fire dampers in ventilation and air conditioning systems of a given zone, launching the fire ventilation system ensuring safe evacuation conditions and intervention of rescue services in the fire hazard zone. Because all safety devices are actuated in the early stages of a fire, when the risk of a sharp rise in temperature is very small, installation accessories used, control mechanisms and power systems do not have to guarantee a change of state under fire conditions. Fire ventilation cut-off dampers, used in this type of solutions during classification tests, they must open after issuing an order 2 min after the start of the test, and the time of complete opening cannot be longer than 2 min.

b) Race stadiums. In this case, following the procedure specified for a one-stop solution, emergency services are provided with the ability to manually control the fire ventilation system. Means, that the control mechanisms of the fire ventilation dampers, power system, installation accessories, power and control cables must ensure correct operation in a developed fire, tj. high temperature conditions. As required, fire ventilation cut-off dampers should open and be able to close again when instructed after a time 25 min and retain the possibility of re-closing and opening to 30 min from the start of the fire test, and the time of complete opening cannot be longer than 2 min.

The scenario of the development of events during a fire in high-rise buildings and high-rise buildings presented in the Guide provides for a one-time response of fire detection systems and facility security., which means, that from the point of view of the implementation of control procedures for devices constituting fire protection, a single radio solution is used.
