Painting of plastics

Hardened PVC is often used for the production of plastic windows and gutters. What coating materials can be applied to this material? What requirements should these coatings meet?

The following materials are suitable for rigid PVC components, giving coatings with specific properties:

Type of coating Coating resistance
A coating of special alkyd varnishes Resistant to normal weather conditions
Coating of polyurethane varnishes High resistance to water and weather conditions; high resistance to solvents and chemicals, also sufficient under high mechanical loads
Coating of epoxy varnishes High resistance to water and weather conditions; high resistance to solvents and chemicals, also sufficient under high mechanical loads, but in the air, even in good weather conditions, the coating chalks
Coating of polymer varnishes, e.g. polyvinylchloride or solvent-based varnishes made of 1-k-acrylic resins Resistant to normal weather conditions
Coating of 2-k-acrylic resins High resistance to water and weather conditions; high resistance to solvents and chemicals, also under high mechanical stress
Coating of varnishes and dispersion paints Resistant to normal weather conditions, at low mechanical loads

Why are adhesives and solvent-based coatings not suitable for rigid polystyrene foam boards??
Rigid polystyrene foam is very sensitive to solvents and dissolves when glued or painted with solvent-based agents.

Which coating best protects plastics against the release of the plasticizer?
Before the "escape” The plasticizer made of plastics is best protected by a coating made of 2-k-epoxy resin varnish.

An inscription is to be made on acrylic glass. What coating should be applied for this purpose?
The inscription can be made with a special varnish of alkyd resins, polymer or 2-k-acrylic.
