Rack for hi-fi equipment

Rack for hi-fi equipmentGlued into a light bow – plywood cover.
Making a rack for hi-fi equipment also requires the purchase of a properly finished glass, not requiring further processing. Glass plates must be cut to size and have carefully sanded edges. The processing of wooden elements is much more interesting in this case. To obtain the form of a slight arc of the front cover plate, we glue together two boards of poplar plywood with a thickness 3 mm and attach them to the arched glass plate support elements. In this way, we will ensure the durability of the shape of the cover. Before that, we mill the cuts for the glass shelves in the boards.

When gluing, plywood boards must be laid individually. Lower (rear) The board is fastened at the ends of the arches with nails or small screws. Then we glue the entire surface of the second panel to the first panel. Apply the glue with a notched trowel. Press the longitudinal edges firmly, by placing board strips of thickness under the carpenter's clamps 16 do 19 mm. Then we take out the glass plates again and remove the traces of glue flowing out on them.

Before painting (clear varnish) the edges should be carefully ground and holes should be drilled for cables with a diameter 35 mm.

Mark the cuts for the shelves on one of the plywood boards. Place the boards on top of each other and secure them against shifting. We fasten the self-made guide in the right position. We use a groove cutter for milling the cuts 8 mm. Mark the arc lines of the supporting elements of the glass shelves with a bar caliper and cut out with a jigsaw or table saw. Finish the contours of the arches with a milling machine with a self-made compass. The elements are secured against shifting. Screw the support elements of the glass shelves to the rear wall from the back. Their arrangement requires the insertion of a glass shelf. When gluing, first slide the first plywood board over the glass shelves, to be able to glue the arches of the load-bearing elements.

The frame made of battens hung on the wall is used to hang fluorescent lamps and allows the rack to be fixed with metal brackets.
